Swarożyn ( German  Swaroschin , 1942–1945 Paleskenhof , Kashubian Swôròżënò ) is a village in the rural community Tczew in the powiat Tczewski ( Dirschau ) of the Polish Pomeranian Voivodeship .

location

Swarożyn is located in the south of the rural community of Tczew, about 10 kilometers southwest of Tczew .

history

After the First World War , like most of West Prussia , Swaroschin came to Poland as a result of the Treaty of Versailles . During the Second World War , Swarozhin was occupied by the Germans and was renamed Paleskenhof as a result of the Germanization of foreign-sounding place names .

Today the place is part of the Gmina Tczew and seat of a Schulzenamt ( Polish Sołectwo ). Until 1998 the place belonged to the Gdansk Voivodeship , since then to the Pomeranian Voivodeship .

church

Church in Swarozhin

In Swarożyn there is a Catholic church dedicated to St. Andrzej Bobola . Presumably a chapel was built at the end of the 16th century, and in 1649 a chapel dedicated to St. Catherine is mentioned. As a result of the first partition of Poland , the place became part of Prussia in 1772 , which meant that more and more Protestant Germans were added to the predominantly Catholic population. 150 years later the place was Polish again and it was decided to found an independent Catholic parish.

A chapel was completed in 1925, and from 1935 the place had its own cemetery. On July 1, 1937 the parish was officially founded, which included the towns of Swarożyn, Wędkowy, Zabagno, Goszyn, Liniewko, Zwierzynek, Młynki, Polesie, Zduny, Waćmierz and Waćmierek. The construction of the church was interrupted by the outbreak of the Second World War, the building was completed in July 1945. In 1947 the place Szpęgawsk was added to the parish.
