background

As a producer came the first time since Williams' album Escapology again Guy Chambers in appearance, who also serves as co- songwriter of the title Shine My Shoes, Go Gentle, Swing Supreme, swings both ways, Snowblind, No One Likes a Fat Pop Star, and Where There's Muck acted. Gary Barlow contributed to the title Wedding Bells .

In addition to these new tracks ( marked with an asterisk (*) in the track list ), Swings Both Ways, like Swing When You're Winning, contains numerous cover versions : I Wan'na Be Like You comes from the soundtrack to the Disney film The Jungle Book . Williams recorded the title in a duet with Olly Murs . If I Only Had a Brain comes from the pen of Harold Arlen and EY Harburg and was used in the 1939 musical film The Wizard of Oz . There it is sung by the scarecrow. The title Minnie the Moocher by Cab Calloway and Irving Mills , which was used in the film Blues Brothers in 1980, found its way onto the album, as did the jazz standard Puttin 'on the Ritz written by Irving Berlin in 1929 and first published in 1946 and made famous by Tennessee Ernie Ford , among others now socially critical R'n'B classics 16 notes . Dream a Little Dream of Me , a 1968 hit for The Mamas and the Papas and, according to National Public Radio, one of the hundred most important American musical works of the 20th century, Williams sang for the album with Lily Allen . In addition, Williams recorded his hit Supreme from the album Sing When You're Winning in a swing version ( Swing Supreme ).

The first single was the song Go Gentle , which Williams wrote and recorded as a "protection promise" for his daughter:

“[…] It's about my daughter, Teddy. Go Gentle is a promise of protection. It's a song that I want to live up to, because it's actually the most important thing I will do on the planet while I'm here - either be a good or a bad dad. Way more important than four nights at Wembley, three nights at Knebworth. "

It's a song I want to live up to in life because it really is the most important thing I will do on this planet while I'm here: be either a good or a bad father. Much more important than four evenings at Wembley , three at Knebworth . "
