Systematics of the higher crabs

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The following classification of the higher crabs shows the affiliation of the different taxa in the class of the higher crabs (Malacostraca) up to the family level.

In the past, another classification was more common, in which the decapods or decapods were divided into the two suborders Reptantia and Natantia. The Natantia comprised the free-swimming forms (usually referred to as shrimp ), the Repatantia the benthic, living at the bottom of the water, in addition to the Astacidea , Anomura and Brachyura, the lobster-like or Palinura were understood as part of the Repantia. Another classification summarized all groups with well-trained pleons , i.e. all except the Brachyura and Anomura , to the subordination Macrura. These systems are no longer used today because some of the different taxa are not monophyletic , so the system does not reflect the natural relationship of the groups.
