Szczepankowice (German Schönbankwitz ) is a village in the Kobierzyce municipality in Poland . It is located 21 kilometers southwest of Breslau ( Wrocław ) and belongs to the powiat Wrocławski .

history

Until the beginning of the 20th century the place was called "Tschönbankwitz", then "Schönbankwitz". In 1937, at the time of National Socialism , the name was Germanized into "Schönlehn". According to one interpretation of the name, the place name means that it is the property and residence of dear Stephen.

Village and manor with Vorwerk (Fideikommiss until the 1920s). There are remains of the ring wall of a medieval castle as well as princely barrows of the Aunjetitz culture . A document dated March 25, 1286 from Duke Heinrich V of Breslau , mentions Stephan von Stepancowitz as the owner. The same document also mentions a Schulzen Gerhardt, which shows that at that time Tschönbankwitz had a free scholtisei - so settlers of German origin were under German law here in the Middle Ages.

From 1789 to 1945 in the hands of the von Coester family, who came from the County of Mansfeld and obtained the Silesian Incolat in 1786 . In 1789 she also acquired the neighboring manor Klein Bresa and the Erbscholtisei Langenöls.

In 1874 the rural community of Schönbankwitz was combined with the rural community of Jackschönau to form the Jackschönau district , which was renamed the Schwertern district in 1937 . The head of the office was the owner of the Tschönbankwitz manor, and the deputy of the Jackschönau manor.

In 1898 Tschönbankwitz received a train station on the Koberwitz – Heidersdorf railway line .

In the 1939 census , the population was 420.
