Szynwałd ( German : Schönwald (e) ) is a village with a Schulzenamt of the municipality of Skrzyszów in the Powiat Tarnowski of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship in Poland .

geography

The place is in the Ciężkowice Mountains , on the stream Wątok, a right tributary of the Biała , about ten kilometers southeast of Tarnów . The neighboring towns are Skrzyszów in the north-west, Ładna in the north, Łęki Górne in the east, Zalasowa in the south, and Łękawica and Trzemesna in the west.

history

The place was founded after 1333 by the Krakow castellan Spycimir Leliwita and was first mentioned on May 11th in 1344 as Sonvald sive Mnych , a village owned by the castellan. The name is of German origin - Schönwalde . Alternative explanations of the name, e.g. B. from "siny wał" (gray water dam ), are not convincing - many of the Polish local place names, including Zalasowa ([the village] behind the forest ) in the south , are associated with the forest. The Roman Catholic parish of Szinvald was mentioned as early as 1350.

Politically and administratively, the village belonged to the Kingdom of Poland (from 1569 aristocratic republic of Poland-Lithuania ), Sandomir Voivodeship , Pilzno District .

During the First Partition of Poland , Szynwałd came to the new Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria of the Habsburg Empire in 1772 (from 1804). In the middle of the 19th century it was also named as Schönwald in church documents .

Local church

In 1918, after the end of the First World War and the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, Szynwałd came to Poland. This was only interrupted by the occupation of Poland by the Wehrmacht in World War II .

From 1975 to 1998 Szynwałd was part of the Tarnów Voivodeship .
