TTC Neu-Ulm

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The TTC Neu-Ulm is a table tennis club founded in 2019 . Although he had not played a single game before and there was also no men's team, the founder Florian Ebner applied to the TTBL supervisory board for a license to participate in the table tennis Bundesliga TTBL for the 2019/20 season. This was granted at the end of May 2019 and the club received a wildcard.

Under the name TTC Ebner Ulm , the newly founded club applied for a license to play in the Bundesliga in March 2019. The license application was discussed controversially. The most important pro-argument was that no second division team had agreed to be promoted and thus the desired target strength of 12 teams in the TTBL could not be achieved otherwise. Already in the previous year the TTC Jülich was admitted to promotion as table eight in the 2nd league in order to increase the number of teams to at least 11.

Eventually the association changed its name to TTC Neu-Ulm. At the beginning of June, the eight-player and therefore unusually large squad was presented, although the Chinese Hao Shuai and Cui Qinglei were ultimately not used. Chen Zhibin became the coach . The venue is the Ratiopharm-Arena and also the smaller Edwin-Scharff-Haus in Neu-Ulm. After reaching eighth place with 9 wins from 21 games, Tsuboi, Salifou and Brodd left the club, followed by Vladimir Sidorenko and the 2016 European Champion Emmanuel Lebesson .

Comparable cases

This Ebner case is roughly comparable to the takeover of TG Hanau from TTV Gönnern in 2009. However, TG Hanau was not an “artificial” club, it was already active in table tennis before. There were similar cases in other sports as well: In 2008, the basket department of FC Bayern Munich acquired the license from Düsseldorf Magics and was thus able to “move” from the 4th division directly to the top division. In 2017 the German-Austrian volleyball team Hypo Tirol Alpenvolleys Haching was allowed to compete in the German Bundesliga because TSV Unterhaching waived .

Florian Ebner

Florian Ebner is (as of April 2019) the sole managing partner at the head of the family holding Verlagsgruppe Ebner Ulm GmbH & Co. KG . He was formerly president of the SSV Ulm in 1846 .
