Tatarenda Viejo is a town in the Santa Cruz Department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
Location in the vicinity
Tatarenda Viejo is the second largest town in the canton of Ipitá in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Gutiérrez in the province of Cordillera . The village is located at an altitude of 811 m on the edge of an elongated alluvial plain on the eastern edge of the Serranía Pirirenda , one of the eastern promontories of the Bolivian Cordillera Oriental . About ten kilometers north of Tatarenda Viejo is the almost 6 km² large Laguna Tatarenda , an outflow-free, highly salty and sulphurous lake whose water can neither be used for bathing nor for drinking water supply.

Tatarenda Viejo is located on the western edge of the Bolivian lowlands between the foothills of the eastern Cordillera Oriental and the Cordillera Central . The climate is subtropical and semi-humid , the temperatures fluctuate only to a limited extent during the day and during the year.
The annual average temperature is almost 23 ° C, with monthly average temperatures between 18 ° C in June and July and over 25 ° C from November to January (see Gutiérrez climate diagram). The annual precipitation is almost 750 mm, the dry season from May to October contrasts with a pronounced humidity period from November to April, in which the average monthly values reach 130 to 140 mm.
Transport network
Tatarenda Viejo is located 187 kilometers by road south of Santa Cruz , the capital of the department of the same name.
From Santa Cruz, the paved road Ruta 9 leads south via Cabezas and Ipitá to Tatarenda Viejo and on via Gutiérrez , Boyuibe and Villamontes to Yacuiba on the Bolivian border with Argentina .
Eighteen kilometers south of Tatarenda Viejo, the unpaved route 22 branches off in Ipitá in a northerly direction from route 9 and leads over 250 kilometers on the way via Masicurí and Vallegrande to Mataral in the province of Florida .

Due to the historical population distribution, the region has a high proportion of Guaraní population, in the municipality of Gutiérrez 77.3 percent of the population speak the Guaraní language .
