history
Remains of an early Slavic settlement were found near Sukow . The Sukow-Dziedzice group , the oldest Slavic culture in northern Germany, was named after the archaeological finds . A wood find from Sukow may represent the oldest dendrodatum in the north ("after 591").
Sukow is first mentioned in a document of sale from February 16, 1348. The place is certainly a lot older with regard to its early German settlement, as it was on an important trade route.
On July 1, 1950, the previously independent municipality of Zietlitz was incorporated.
Sukow has been the center of equestrian sport for many years ; the state championships in show jumping and dressage are held here. Due to the suburb of the state capital Schwerin, the number of inhabitants has almost doubled in the post-reunification period.
Sukow is the headquarters of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Carnival Association (KLMV).
