Architecture of a death is a television film from the crime series Tatort of ARD and ORF , which was produced by HR . The first broadcast on German and Austrian television took place on September 6, 2009. For the Frankfurt investigators Dellwo and Sänger it is the 16th case that they have to solve together. In this 740th episode of the Tatort crime scene, Dellwo and singer have to deal with a missing person, which ends fatally.

action

The well-known architect Sofia Martens is a good friend of the public prosecutor Scheer's. When her assistant Anett Berger suddenly disappears, she asks him for help, who then assigns Dellwo and Sänger to handle the case. Although the investigators are actually responsible for murder cases, they are exceptionally dealing with this case.

For Sofia Martens it is certain that something has happened to her assistant, because the architecture office is about to enter into a major competition, which suggests a kidnapping. Anett Berger was involved in the women's network “Working Woman Web” and so it is possible that the perpetrator came into contact with her there. In the evening, the singer goes to a regulars 'table there, while Dellwo takes a close look at Sofia Martens' surroundings. Since Martens is very busy at work, her husband Holger takes over the domestic work and looking after the children. Dellwo also looks around Anett Berger's apartment in the hope of finding a clue. He notices a young man who obviously wants to visit her. Dellwo follows him unnoticed and sees Sofia Martens ringing his doorbell, but he doesn't answer. When he later exchanges ideas with the singer, they find out that this is a "Charli" who is well known in Martens women's group, as he always meets with older and wealthy women. Accordingly, Sänger contacts him via the Internet and arranges to meet him. It turns out that he is firmly in a relationship with Anett Berger. In his opinion, Sofia Martens is extremely jealous because she is in love with Anett herself, and is actually addicted to her. Dellwo noticed on his first visit to Marten's company that almost exclusively women work there. Slowly it turns out that Sofia Martens has built up quite a network of lies around her: on the one hand the functioning wife and mother, on the other hand a successful businesswoman with a lesbian tendency.

Anett Berger is unexpectedly found dead on a construction site. It was obviously held in the shell of a high-rise building. Perhaps she fell while trying to break free. Sofia Martens is heartbroken and claims that she has received calls and emails from a stranger for some time. He wanted her to meet him, then he would be quiet. Martens sent Anett to the meeting in her place and waited in the car herself to be able to intervene in an emergency. But supposedly the man didn't show up.

The press reports that the body has been found and Peter Kaufmann, an employee of Sofia Martens, appears on the presidium. He confesses that he is the writer of the anonymous emails. He enjoyed frightening his boss. When he came to the meeting, Anett ran away from him and landed on the construction site. He would have caught up with her and she would have been surprised to see him, but would have mocked him at the same time. Because she knew about his e-mails and the calls, as she had been in constant communication with Sofia. He was angry and locked her in a half-finished room, but he wouldn't have killed her.

In the end, it turns out that Sofia Martens' husband found out where Anett was imprisoned. He claims to have gone to her to rescue her. But they got into an argument. He wanted her to stay away from Sofie and leave her family alone. In doing so, she lost her balance and crashed.

criticism

The general criticism is devastating: Tilmann P. Gangloff states about this urban film: A 'crime scene' with “narrative standstill. "

The critics atquotemeter.de think that “individual dialogues [are staged in an atmospheric way]. Ultimately, it is the lack of context that makes following and understanding the plot frustrating. ”'Architecture of a death' is“ unfortunately more than unsatisfactory. Instead of a continuous plot, the viewer follows a string of different storylines that flirt less with the investigations than with the private problems of the actors. The perpetrator, so much has been revealed, turns himself in at the end - perhaps symptomatic of the third from last and unfortunately also the weakest episode of the Frankfurt 'Tatort' inspectors. "

Kathrin Buchner at Stern.de not only considers this crime scene to be a “complete disappointment” for the investigative team, because “the staging of 'architecture of a death' is just as gloomy as the gender struggle is depicted. Pale colors in cold neon light in front of the smooth facades of Frankfurt skyscrapers, cool modern architecture, chic and tidy, without any warmth or security. That is quite consistent, but director Titus Selge annoys with strange camera work, which is often held at waist height. Judith Angerbauer's script is frayed, too many suspects, too many sidelines, [...] no story is told to the end. "

Feridun Zaimoglu at Die Zeit.de judges quite sarcastically: “The new Frankfurt 'Tatort' episode wants to be experimental. Andrea Sawatzki mingles with emancipated champagne ladies: yawning until the jaw cracks. "And he feels even more blatantly:" Andrea Sawatzki and Nina Petri unfortunately look like drag queens on the carnival float. "

There were two positive voices:

Rainer Tittelbach from tittelbach.tv says: “Like architecture and aesthetics, a good crime thriller is often a question of perception and perspective. 'Architecture of a death' deals with these possibilities of the genre extremely imaginatively. In Titus Selge's film you often see people watching something. […] The viewer also observes, sees an event in which he knows more than the inspectors. ”Overall, a“ very well-built film [r] and atmospherically stylish, which nevertheless leaves its characters enough leeway. "

The critics of the TV magazine TV Spielfilm believe that this crime scene is: "versatile and excellently played, exciting and hard on psychodrama."
