Where's Max Gravert? is a TV film from the crime series Tatort on ARD and ORF . The film was produced by HR and aired for the first time on April 17, 2005 in the program Das Erste . For the Frankfurt investigators Dellwo and Sänger it is the sixth case that they have to solve together. In this 595th episode of the crime scene, the Dellwo and the singer have to deal with a case of revenge and vigilante justice of defrauded policyholders. Because of their fatal illness, they lack scruples and compassion for their healthy fellow human beings.

action

One night, Peter Roth is visited and threatened by two masked men. Let him tell them where Max Gravert is. Shortly afterwards, Roth is shot in the street. Countless witnesses are questioned, but initially there is no concrete indication.

Dellwo and Singer learn that Roth had recently tried to get police protection and spoke to Wittich from the economic department (Sanger's old office). The investigators question Wittich and learn that Roth was involved in insurance fraud. It was about the so-called second market for life insurance. Terminally ill insurance customers turn to a company that pays them two-thirds of life insurance immediately when they transfer their policy to the company. Max Gravert had embezzled the money that Solitär GmbH wanted to pay out and is now volatile. It is incomprehensible why he embezzled the money if the life insurance would have paid in any case after the death of a customer and thus the money would have been available for Gravert.

Tom Novak becomes the main suspect because Roth recognized him the night of the attack. Again, it is unclear why he only shot him now and not on the night of the attack. Dellwo thinks it is more likely that someone did not want Roth to reveal where Gravert is and he was killed as a result.

Tom Novak is now storming the office of Karl Brockhorst, a banker who he knows was connected to Gravert, with Roman Mielcke, who is also terminally ill. They demand information about his whereabouts, while Mielcke shoots a security guard and takes his and his colleague's guns. Before the police arrive, they leave the building and flee. Since it is to be feared that the perpetrators will seek out and threaten everyone who could have contact with Gravert, Dellwo and Sänger talk to Gravert's brother, who works in cancer research, and offer him police protection. But he refuses. Should Mielcke and Novak, who have already been with him, turn up again, he will tell them what he knows and not hide.

Dellwo speaks with Julia Steiner, an affected person and leader of a self-help group against cheated insurance victims of Solitär GmbH. She impresses him with her zest for life, when she knows that she will soon die. She would have needed the insurance money for her therapy and hopes Dellwo could help her find Gravert. However, he has gone abroad and is wanted via Interpol.

Ballistics has since established that the bullet that killed Peter Roth came from the same weapon as the one with which the security guard was shot. Singer manages to find a doctor with whom Tom Novak will have an appointment shortly. While trying to catch him there, Novak suddenly shoots detective assistant Kruschke and is then shot by members of the SEK. Dellwo finds out that Julia Steiner was in contact with Tom Novak. He speaks to her about it and wants to know to what extent she is involved in the whole thing. He explains to her: even if Gravert had cheated on them, it would still not give them the right to vigilante justice. As expected, she is also in contact with Mielcke. To get at him, Dellwo sets a trap for him through Julia. Singer has found out that Max Gravert is on his way to Frankfurt. Dellwo assumes that Julia will tell him that. But before he can consult with the singer, she approaches Gravert's brother Ulf alone and explains frankly that she is convinced that his brother has embezzled the 50 million euros in order to be able to continue to finance his research. Ulf Gravert is just about to justify himself when Mielcke walks in the door and forces him at gunpoint to take him to his brother.

Mielcke meets Max Gravert in a corn field and threatens to shoot him on the spot. Gravert tries to explain to Mielcke that he needed the money for research for a cancer drug and not for himself. He said he was very sorry. Thereupon Roman Mielcke withdraws into the field and shoots himself.

Based on the evaluation of the witness questioning, Mielcke can later be identified as the man who also shot Peter Roth.

This 'Tatort' episode is simply a well-rounded affair and captivates until the end. "
