Crime scene: game on time
Spiel auf Zeit is a television film from the crime series Tatort and was first broadcast on May 26, 2013 in Erste . It is the 875th episode in the series and the 12th case of the Stuttgart investigative team Lannert and Bootz . This time they are faced with a complicated robbery and privately Sebastian Bootz gets into a family crisis.

During the transfer of Volker Zahn from the Stammheim prison, the prisoner transport is ambushed by false police officers and the prisoner is freed. Lannert and Bootz are informed and rush to the crime scene where they find the guards who were shot. One dies shortly after on the way to the hospital, the other survives. A manhunt is initiated both after the escaped and after the members of his four-man gang, of whom one must assume that they are behind the liberation operation. The transfer was ordered by the public prosecutor after her husband, Stephan Brüggenthies, had been kidnapped and put under pressure.
Bootz meets with his wife in a restaurant. She confesses to him that she met someone and that she will leave him. It was Moritz Bahr, the father of one of her son Henry's schoolmates. For Bootz, this comes out of the blue. He got all the information about the man and went to Moritz Bahr to talk to him. He has to find out that he is paraplegic and is sitting in a wheelchair.
While Bootz still has to cope with the fact that his wife wants to separate from him, Lannert visits his old rival Victor de Man in the prison and asks him whether he knows anything about the rescue operation. He negotiates with Lannert: If he helps to snap a tooth, he would like to be released nine months earlier. So he sends Lannert to a trailer park behind the container port. There he also finds the caravan described with a Heilbronn license plate in which Brüggenthies was held. The first of the gang, Marko Rossi, can also be arrested.
De Man also knows that Zahn is about to get hold of automatic fire rifles. They use de Man's connections to find out where he can get them, and Lannert takes him into his care. Together they drive to the arms dealer Moscherosch, who tells them that Zahn has already supplied himself with weapons. Zahn was a professional soldier and is able to hack into the time lock systems of banks. So it can be assumed that he is planning a major bank robbery. Five banks in Stuttgart work with such a time lock system, and Bootz asks de Man whether he knew which Zahn could have chosen. He has to say no, but he knows that Zahn has asked for a civil protection expert. The people in question in the city are researched and a Betz is conspicuous because it has already come into conflict with the law. The investigators seek him out and pursue him when he escapes. You learn from Betz that since he is the city's security officer, he is supposed to cause a leak in the gas pipe. In this way, Zahn's people would have access to the bank disguised as craftsmen, while there would be general chaos and all employees and customers would have to leave the bank due to the alarm of the Gashavarie.
De Man admits to Lannert that he has a daughter who he has only just found out about. However, he doesn't want her to visit him in jail, so he desperately wants to be released early. Lannert allows him to go to her for 30 minutes without handcuffs and guarding and falls for a trick. De Man flees and the investigators are back to where they were at the beginning.
Lannert and Bootz go to the prison in the hope of finding out more about Zahn. So they question Zahn's cell mate. He knows that he once asked about xenon , which can be used as an anesthetic, and where you can get it. Since they have no other lead than to the bank, they keep on monitoring it on a large scale. However, they discover that it may not be a bank robbery that Zahn and de Man are planning, but that it is about the transport of money printing plates and that an anesthetic gas can be used for such transport.
With an ingenious system, Zahn and his gang manage to attack the transporter and steal the printing plates. The police are already on their tracks, but are forced to retreat with the robbers' large-caliber weapons. When De Man and Zahn want to take their prey by helicopter, Lannert comes so close to Zahn that he shoots him down. Before he can pursue a fatal shot, however, de Man shoots Zahn and thus saves Lannert's life.

When it first aired on May 26, 2013, Spiel auf Zeit achieved 10.23 million viewers, which corresponds to a market share of 28.40%. Among the 14 to 49 year olds, the ARD crime thriller came to 3.56 million and thus 24.5%.
criticism
Lena Bopp from the FAZ rates this Stuttgart crime scene as “average”, although this episode actually opens up “a new storyline” and “almost looks like an action episode”. “Holger Karsten Schmidt, who was responsible for the script, [tried] to maintain this uncertainty until the last minute. That makes this crime scene really exciting in some moments. ”In the end, however, it only brings the usual mediocrity.
At the Süddeutsche Zeitung, Holger Gertz judges similarly. He finds the crime scene to be “exciting, especially when the term is traced back to its insides”. The story lives through the contrasts “that are brought into contact with one another. Tension between the arms dealer, a fascinatingly charismatic asshole, and Commissioners Lannert and Bootz, good guys. Tension between trust and disappointment. Tension between quiet and loud moments. ”Therefore, for him, the finale“ is completely overdriven.
