Anne and Death is a television film from the crime series Tatort . The contribution produced by Südwestrundfunk is the 1095th Tatort episode and was broadcast on May 19, 2019 on Das Erste . The Stuttgart investigator duo Lannert and Bootz is investigating its 23rd case.

Anne Werner is in police custody and is being interrogated by Commissioners Lannert and Bootz. She is a geriatric nurse and works for the Elvira nursing service . She also lives as a single parent with her 17-year-old son for rent in her father's apartment. The investigators targeted her after the death of her patient Christian Hinderer, who died of a severe traumatic brain injury after falling down stairs. This was the second death of one of her patients within a few days after the former hotelier Paul Fuchs had recently suffered a heart attack. In nested flashbacks, Anne Werner's private environment as well as previous investigations by Lannert and Bootz are shown.

In the first chronological scene, the commissioners are called to the Hotel Fuchs, where the former owner Paul Fuchs lies dead in his bed. The investigators learned from his family doctor who was present that Fuchs suffered from cardiac arrhythmias and had to take many different tablets every day. The young doctor explains to both of them that the one-time absence of a single drug would have been enough to be fatal for Fuchs. On the basis of a nursing protocol, the inspectors came across the name Anne Werner for the first time, but the doctor reported that she took exemplary care of her patients and was particularly careful when taking the medicine. At the wedding party of Fuchs' daughter, which was taking place at the same time in the hotel, the inspectors questioned the new co-managing director Joachim Fuchs and his wife Svenja about the sudden death of Fuchs senior. Joachim Fuchs suggests that his father deliberately left out his heart medication because the embittered old man was on the one hand no longer attached to his life as a total care case, on the other hand he could "really ruin his daughter's wedding party" for his offspring again. . This assumption was preceded by a dispute between Paul Fuchs and his children, who finally wanted to be appointed by him as the owner and manager of the hotel because he was no longer able to do so himself. In the absence of a basis for investigation, the commissioners and prosecutor Alvarez are considering closing the case.

A few days later, Lannert and Bootz meet the name Anne Werner again in Christian Hinderer's care protocol. The disabled man fell down a flight of stairs in his home and was later found by his wife. The nurse distrusts this because the nursing times constantly collided with the wife's appointments, so that Anne Werner was always alone with her patient. Since two deaths seem strange to them within a few days, the inspectors pick Anne Werner up from her apartment and take her to the presidium.

The nurse says that Christian Hinderer's death must have been an unfortunate mishap, as the physically handicapped man often tried to walk around the apartment and now failed on the stairs. In general, Hinderer suffered less from his handicap than much more from his wife, as she kept her husband trapped in the upper part of the maisonette apartment and sought secondary gain in the form of praise and recognition for herself that she was still looking after herself in her old age take care of her husband. The imperious and demanding nature of the wife was also the reason why the care periods should be during her absence if possible. In the case of Paul Fuchs, on the other hand, it is conceivable that the tablets were incorrectly sorted, whether due to an accident or someone else's intention.

Lannert and Bootz confront them with their poor financial situation. Only a few months ago, her son bought brand name clothing on credit for 3,000 euros because he had been bullied at school for his cheap things. Furthermore, she has to pay the rent and her car and has only a low income herself. Therefore, there is a possibility that in addition to the regular banking business for her patients, she also withdrew money for herself and wanted to get rid of the men as witnesses. Because both Fuchs and Hinderer would have lacked large amounts of money. Anne Werner vehemently denies this, and her superior is also certain that this accusation is unjustified. In addition to a frugal lifestyle, she gets by with irregular donations of money from her son's father.

Bootz asks Svenja and Joachim Fuchs again why they gave care to the nursing service after they had looked after Paul Fuchs themselves for years. He learns that Svenja Fuchs was sexually molested by her father-in-law when she washed his genital area. They therefore wanted to have this done by a professional in the future. When asked whether Anne Werner had also been harassed by her patients and now wanted to take revenge, she also said no. However, after the long interrogation, she confesses that she referred her friend "Susi" to the senior citizens who are prostituting themselves. Therefore, larger amounts of money would have been missing. In order to pursue this lead, the commissioners visit the former conductor Eberhard Rees, another patient with severe lung disease and alcoholism. He actually seems to know "Susi", but does not want to comment further.

Due to a lack of evidence, Anne Werner is released and starts her shift instead of driving home. Lannert and Bootz follow her to Rees, fearing that Rees will be her next victim. In fact, he is lying dead on the sofa when the commissioners enter the apartment. However, since Rees has apparently drunk herself to death , the nurse is allowed to leave the apartment and continue on her way. In the evening, however, she is taken back into custody by the commissioners and confronted with their suspicion of being "Susi" themselves. Now she should either make a comprehensive confession or the investigators would ask and search in their social environment until they actually found "Susi".

The viewer now again reveals the actual events in flashbacks: As suspected by the inspectors, Paul Fuchs was assaulted and offered his nurse money for sexual acts. Due to her poor financial situation, she eventually agreed to it and stood naked in front of her patients, who were pleasuring themselves. She did the same with Christian Hinderer and Eberhard Rees. Fuchs once photographed her and wanted to blackmail her into reluctantly serving him as a template, otherwise he would pass the photo on. Therefore, she exchanged his heart medicine for a homeopathic tablet without active ingredients. Hinderer, on the other hand, fell down the stairs through no fault of another when he tried to run after his nurse. Rees chose to commit suicide through alcohol poisoning. However, Anne Werner does not mention any of this in her confession. Instead, she tells the commissioners that she murdered Fuchs and Hinderer out of mercy and pity. She is an angel of death and an angel is a "beautiful being" after all. Lannert and Bootz are certain that this story is a lie and that they face a long prison sentence if they stick to this version. However, the nurse is determined to hold on to her confession.

In order to interview Paul Fuchs's bereaved relatives, Lannert and Bootz first visit them at the wedding of Fuchs' daughter and later in the restaurant kitchen of the Hotel Fuchs.
