Altlasten is a television film from the crime series Tatort and was broadcast for the first time on December 27, 2009 on Erste and ORF 2 . The 750th episode of the crime scene series and the 5th case of the Stuttgart investigative team Lannert and Bootz was produced under Eoin Moore's direction by Maran Film and Südwestrundfunk . Investigators are investigating a homicide that almost went undetected. This is more about dementia, responsibility and generation conflicts than about murder.

action

In a funeral parlor, the person responsible noticed irregularities on the body of the former lawyer Willy Schubert. He informs the police, whereupon Lannert and Bootz investigate. The forensic doctor found some age-related illnesses, including carcinoma, but the ingestion of a poison is obvious, probably a cocktail of various sleeping pills.

The investigators question the Schubert's family doctor and draw his attention to the fact that he has not examined the deceased thoroughly. He states that there was nothing to suggest an unnatural cause of death. In addition, due to his cancer, Schubert only had a few weeks to live and his overall condition was very poor. However, this contradicts the view of the forensic doctor, who is of the opinion that Schubert could have lived for a few more years despite his many health problems.

So the family members come under suspicion. Everyone had a motive to get rid of the old man. The daughter wanted to go back to work, which was not possible with the extensive care of her father. As an artist who was not very successful, the son could use an inheritance. The son-in-law wants to defend a capital criminal, which is why he had a fierce argument with his father-in-law, because his own daughter Emma was murdered by a sex offender at the age of eleven. Therefore, he absolutely refused to defend such perpetrators.

The forensic examination had shown that the victim had been given sleeping pills together with blueberry compote. The investigators find out that the family doctor, Doctor Riedmann, had brought such a glass for the Schuberts. Daughter Eva then portioned it, but only her father was supposed to eat it because it was his favorite compote. The son-in-law then added whipped cream to the compote. So this is arrested on suspicion of murder. Shortly afterwards, the granddaughter Leonie comes to Bootz's office and confesses that her papa is innocent, she gave her grandpa two pills because her grandmother hadn't made it. When she wanted to see her grandpa again in the evening, he had already slept.

The investigators go back to the alleged crime scene in the Schubert's house and become aware of a video cassette on which Willy and Brise Schubert announce their joint suicide. So it turns out that both actually wanted to eat the compote to kill themselves before they could no longer decide for themselves. However, the granddaughter accidentally disturbed the whole thing, so that only Willy Schubert died.

background

The filming locations for this 750th crime scene were Stuttgart, Baden-Baden and Karlsruhe . A villa in Karlsruhe was used for filming, which could already be seen at the Ludwigshafen crime scene Der Schrei .

reception

The film was seen by 7.99 million viewers when it was first broadcast on December 27, 2009, corresponding to a market share of 22.20%.

Altlasten won the special award for film art at the 2010 German Film Festival as an “outstanding television film” and was nominated for the 2010 Adolf Grimme Prize .

criticism

The film received mostly positive reviews from the critics. The Badische Zeitung praises this crime scene as a drama “in which some families can recognize themselves. The children rub themselves between their own lives and helping their aging parents. The grandparents don't want to be a burden to anyone. The grandchildren have to cope with the conflict of adults. "

Also with Judith von Sternburg from fr-online.de the “contemplative 'crime scene' after Christmas” is well received. The director succeeded in telling the story in an unbiased manner “with a festive cast” and “excellently staged family”.

Derwesten.de called the film "heavy fare, a bittersweet television dessert after the holidays". Director Eoin Moore draws “a heartbreaking portrait of emotional overload. The young do not really know what to do with the old, are torn between their own lives and careers and worrying about their seniors. "
