Terra Extra
Terra Extra (Subtitle: SF bestseller in new edition ) was a German science fiction - pulp novel series from the Moewig publishing and appeared on 7 September 1962 to 15 March 1968. The number reached 182 editions. The novels initially appeared every 14 days. From volume 100 onwards, it was published weekly and from volume 169 onwards again biweekly. Terra Extra was closed approximately 2 months after the Terra Utopian Novel series was discontinued. The Terra series was then continued with Terra Nova .
Content and authors
Five years after the start of the successful Terra series, Moewig-Verlag decided in 1962 to bring another SF series onto the market. Due to the great and unexpected success of the Perry-Rhodan series, new groups of readers were gained who demanded more and more SF material. On the one hand, the Moewig publishing house's “in-house authors” (including Clark Darlton , Kurt Mahr and KH Scheer ) who previously wrote the novels for Terra were bound by their work at Perry Rhodan and were therefore “missing” from the rest of the SF market . On the other hand, the older Terra magazines were long out of print.
The Terra Extra series was launched to make the older works of Perry Rhodan's authors accessible to new readers and also to participate in the rising SF boom . It contains Terra , Utopia and loan book reprints. Much of it was shortened to accommodate the smaller number of pages. Unless they were divided into two booklets, which then came out together and were delivered together in a plastic sleeve.
110 of the 182 editions in the series were written by Darlton, Mahr and Scheer. But there were also some American classics (including by Poul Anderson , Robert A. Heinlein , Philip K. Dick and Jack Williamson ) published. The cover pictures of the booklets were mostly designed by Johnny Bruck and later by Karl Stephan .
