Kurt Mahr (born March 8, 1934 in Frankfurt am Main , † June 27, 1993 in Florida ; real name Klaus Mahn ; former pseudonym Cecil O. Mailer ) was a German writer and one since the beginning of the Perry-Rhodan series in 1961 of the authors and "the physicist on duty".

Life

After graduating from high school, Mahr began studying civil engineering in Darmstadt - where he joined the Corps Franconia Darmstadt - but then switched to physics in 1956. As a newly qualified physicist, he went to the USA , where he worked on the space program and in 1968 acquired American citizenship. He also worked as a computer expert for private clients. He lived in the USA until 1972 and stayed there - after an interlude in Germany - from 1977 until his death. On October 18, 1985, Mahr married Inge Voltz in Florida.

Since the late 1950s, Mahr has been one of the most successful German-speaking science fiction authors. In addition to the Perry Rhodan booklet novels, Kurt Mahr also wrote numerous Perry Rhodan planetary novels (paperback edition). This is where his strengths, a storytelling art that is reminiscent of crime stories, and the dense portrayal of characters together with a dry sense of humor come into their own.

Both before and during his writing activities for the Perry Rhodan editorial team, Mahr wrote numerous other science fiction novels that have no content-related reference to the Perry Rhodan series. This also includes the two self-contained short series War of the Milky Way with six novels and The Long Way to Earth with five novels (both at Terra Utopian Novels ).

After the death of William Voltz and the resignation of Thomas Ziegler , Kurt Mahr wrote the synopsis together with Ernst Vlcek from 1985 (issue 1250) . After his unexpected death, Robert Feldhoff took over this task.

Trivia

On March 24, 1994 - Mahr had previously died in June 1993 - the Perry Rhodan booklet novel No. 1,700 with the title Möbius was published . The cover picture of this volume, created by Johnny Bruck , shows a portrait of Kurt Mahr.
