Karl-Herbert Scheer

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Karl-Herbert Scheer (* 19th June 1928 in Harheim (Hessen) ; † 15. September 1991 in Bad Homburg ), which mostly as KH Scheer occurred, was a German science fiction - author .

Life

Soon after his birth, the family moved to Frankfurt am Main, where Scheer grew up. Towards the end of the 1950s he and his family moved to Friedrichsdorf im Taunus, where he lived until his death.

In September 1944, Scheer reported as a volunteer for the Navy to training as a starting marine engineer. According to his own statements, he completed a course at a submarine training division in Kiel . Due to a serious illness shortly before the unconditional surrender of the Wehrmacht on May 8, 1945, he was released home from the naval hospital so that he was not taken prisoner of war . (Hallmann, p. 80 and Langhans, p. 12).

After the end of the war Scheer played in a jazz band and began to write. He was a member of the Friedrichsdorf Rifle Club.

After Scheer's death, Perry Rhodan's booklet No. 1,600 was published in 1992 with the title When the Stars Go Out . The cover picture of this volume, created by Johnny Bruck , shows a portrait of Karl-Herbert Scheer.

In Friedrichsdorf - after approval by the magistrate in February 2020 - a street in a new residential area will be called Karl-Herbert-Scheer-Straße . Before that, a local politician and numerous Perry Rhodan fans from all over Germany had campaigned for such a street to be named since 2009 - also by means of a collection of 160 signatures.

His first work was published in 1948 under the title Stern A radio help . Scheer then made a career in the science fiction genre that was unprecedented in Germany. In the mid-1950s he founded the science fiction interest group Stellaris . He also wrote science fiction novels under the pseudonym Alexej Turbojew , as well as crime and sea adventure stories under the pseudonyms Pierre de Chalon, Roger Kersten, Diego el Santo and Klaus Tannert.

Together with Walter Ernsting (Clark Darlton) he designed and founded the most successful German science fiction series Perry Rhodan in 1961 , which has been published weekly since then and has now reached more than 3,060 issues (as of June 2020). From volume 1 to volume 674 he was responsible for the plot of the series and created the exposés , based on which the authors wrote the individual novels. In addition, he developed the concept for Atlan , the Perry-Rhodan sister series. His detailed description of military processes and the weapon technology used in such actions was often interpreted as a preference for resolving conflicts militarily, and so earned him the nickname "Kanonen-Herbert" after the initials of his first names, which later became "Hand grenade Herbert".
