Teterow-Gnoiener Railway Company

In 1864 the Bützow – Stettin railway line was extended from Güstrow via Teterow to Neubrandenburg , and three years later to Stettin .

To develop the mainly agricultural area north of Teterow with the small town of Gnoien was founded by the Teterow-Gnoiener Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft . The concession to build the line was granted on February 14, 1884. The construction and operation was carried out by the Stettin-based company Lenz & Co. The line was opened on November 5, 1884. Original plans to continue the route via Tribsees in the direction of Stralsund or Greifswald were not realized. In 1889, the private connecting line from Dölitz to Grammow was opened, which initially served primarily to transport beets to the sugar factory in Teterow and - later operated as a branch line - existed until it was dismantled in 1946.

State-owned operation

On March 10, 1890, the railway company, like many other private Mecklenburg railway companies of that time, was nationalized and part of the Grand Ducal Friedrich-Franz Railway . Three locomotives of the Teterow-Gnoiener Eisenbahn were transferred to the state railways.

After the First World War, the line, like the entire Friedrich-Franz-Bahn, was part of the Deutsche Reichseisenbahnen, from which the Deutsche Reichsbahn developed. Practically throughout the entire existence of the line, the passenger train offer on the line consisted of four, rarely five, pairs of trains that commuted between Teterow and Gnoien. After 1945 the line narrowly escaped dismantling by the Soviet occupation forces. Until 1990, the route was particularly important for freight transport with agricultural products. In 1990 the last sugar beet trains drove, the rest of the freight volume melted away.

In the mid-1990s, the route was a curiosity in two respects: On the one hand, the last passenger train with goods transport operated here for Deutsche Bahn , which supplied a fuel dealer at Gnoien station. On the other hand, there was a section several kilometers long on the route that was only passable at 10 km / h. The trains last needed 33 minutes for the five kilometers from Thürkow to Groß Wüstenfelde. This led - also due to the sparse population along the route - to its rapid end. On June 1, 1996 the traffic was stopped, a year later the line was closed. Today the tracks are completely dismantled.
