The Thalia is a research ship from the French research institute Ifremer . The ship is managed by Genavir.

history

The ship was built in 1978 at the Constructions Mécanqiues de Normandie (CMN) shipyard in Cherbourg as a fishing trawler and later converted into a research vessel. It is primarily used for fisheries research projects in the English Channel and Bay of Biscay .

Technical specifications

The ship is equipped with two diesel engines the manufacturer Poyand: each with 265 (type A 12150M)  kW power facilities. It is equipped with a bow thruster with 37 kW power.

A shaft generator with 180  kVA apparent power and a diesel generator with 40 kVA apparent power are available for the power supply.

Furnishing

The ship is equipped with various equipment required for the research, including sonar , salinometer and temperature measuring devices . A 5.7 m² laboratory is available on board. There is space on deck for a 20-foot container .

The ship has a swiveling stern boom with 3 t lifting capacity. There are also various winches on deck.

Six crew members and six scientists or other personnel required for research trips can be accommodated on board . The ship can stay at sea for around five days.
