Thank You for the Music is a song by the Swedish pop group ABBA that appeared on ABBA's fifth studio album - The Album in1977. The piece was also included on the B-side of the single Eagle in 1978and was releasedagain as a separate singlein 1983 with the B-side Our Last Summer .

Creation and publication

The piece was by Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus for the mini-musical The Girl with the Golden Hair wrote that is completely off the song from the three other songs I Wonder (Departure) , I'm a puppet and on Get the Carousel was . Thank You for the Music was already performed in the spring of 1977 on ABBA's Europe-Australia tour in connection with the musical, but with a slightly different text than the current version. At the time of the performances, no studio versions of these songs existed.

A first attempt to record the piece in the studio took place on June 2, 1977. However, this first version did not satisfy the musicians, which is why another attempt was made on July 21, 1977, which finally led to the final result. Both singles were decoupled to promote the album of the same name Gracias por la música , which was released on June 23, 1980.

The original version of Thank You for the Music was first released in May 1978 as the B-side of the single Eagle , which entered the top ten of the charts in four countries . In South Africa, Zimbabwe and Costa Rica the song appeared as the A-side and reached the top five. The A-side single was released in the fall of 1983 in only four countries, including France (# 58) and Great Britain (# 33). The Spanish version Gracias Por La Música with the B-side ¡Dame! Lady! Lady! was much more successful, especially in Latin American countries.
