Gracias por la música is a greatest hits album by ABBA that includes ten of their songs in Spanish . The LP was released on June 23, 1980.
Emergence
In 1979 the songs Chiquitita and I Have a Dream were recorded in Spanish and released in some Spanish-speaking countries. Chiquitita in particular was an overwhelming success. So the group decided to release an album in Spanish.
Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus were not involved in the project, because Agnetha Fältskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad recorded the songs in January 1980 alone with producer Michael B. Tretow. Andersson and Ulvaeus were at the time on a trip abroad to find ideas for new song material.
Gracias por la música was out of print for a long time. All songs that ABBA recorded in Spanish can be found on the CD ABBA Oro - Grandes Éxitos and on The Complete Studio Recordings . Some Spanish-language titles can also be found on the deluxe editions of the respective studio albums. In 2014 a new edition was released as a deluxe edition, which also contains the other Spanish ABBA songs and also a DVD with appearances of the group on Spanish television and music videos.
