The Singles - The First Ten Years is a compilation by the Swedish pop group ABBA from 1982. The album contains all of the group's international singles. The Singles - The First Ten Years was the last official sound carrier in ABBA's career as an active music group.

Origin and meaning

The concept for a collection of all of the group's singles already existed in 1980, but was not used until 1982 as a replacement for the planned ninth studio album. The songs Just Like That , I Am the City and You Owe Me One , composed in the spring of 1982, clearly opposed the style of the last studio album, The Visitors , as they were more cheerful and were all sung by Agnetha Fältskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad .

Since the atmosphere within the group was already tense and the four members lacked motivation, they met one last time in the studio in autumn 1982 to record three new songs. It originated Cassandra , Under Attack and The Day Before You Came . Of these, only the last two were released as single and therefore included in the track list of The Singles . The LP is now a collector's item. The CD version is even rarer to find; both are out of print.
