The Girl with the Diamond Earring (Original title: The Loss of a Teardrop Diamond ) is an American drama from 2008 . Directed by Jodie Markell and the original script by Tennessee Williams .

action

The action takes place in the southern states of the 1920s. Fisher Willow, the spoiled daughter of a US plantation owner, is returning from studying abroad in Europe. But in her home society she quickly makes herself unpopular because of her angular nature. Only Jimmy Dobyne - the poor working-class boy who has to take care of his alcoholic father and the insane mother - is inclined to her. Fisher hires Jimmy to accompany her to society parties. It quickly becomes clear that Fisher is attracted to Jimmy, who is reluctant to behave towards her, be it out of respect or shyness.

When Fisher loses a precious diamond earring at a party, the friendship between the two threatens to break forever. The rest of the evening is very different from what Fisher had planned. While Jimmy only has eyes for another girl, Fisher cannot partake of the joy of the other party guests, from whom she only experiences malice and rejection. Only her friend's terminally ill aunt, Miss Addie, seems to understand. She asks Fisher to give her euthanasia with medication.

Jimmy, who is deeply honest, is horrified to discover that his lover has stolen Fisher's precious earring. He forces her to hand it over to Fisher and says goodbye to her forever. At the same time, Fisher fulfills her promise to Miss Addie and releases her from her torments.

On the way home, Fisher confesses her feelings towards Jimmy and asks him to stay with her as he is the only person she can take.
