Theodor Heinrich Gampe

Theodor Heinrich Gampe (born November 3, 1845 in Chemnitz , † January 5, 1897 in Blasewitz ) was a German writer , poet and publisher .

Life

Theodor Gampe grew up as the son of an industrialist, traveled to Europe at an early age and worked in various professions. After his return to Chemnitz he concentrated more on his literary talent and obtained financial support.

In 1877 King Albert of Saxony noticed him through his work and granted him an annual pension. In the autumn of the same year he moved to Dresden , where he appeared with numerous publications and his publisher of travel guides (such as Graser's round trip library ). Its publication in 1878 is considered to be an early hiking guide through the Ore Mountains . There were exact directions, but they were mainly based on industrial buildings instead of sights . He published his poems regularly in Die Gartenlaube , and later there were also tourist and industrial descriptions such as 1880 Chioggia , the fishing town or the Venice glass bead industry .

From 1882 he was also active in the Open Lodge , a literary association in Dresden. B. with Józef Ignacy Kraszewski , Jonas Lie , Alexander Flamant and Paul Carus .

Gampe was married twice and had several daughters. Him were in honor of Theodor Gampe street named in Chemnitz.
