Theodor von Bunsen

Theodor von Bunsen (born January 3, 1832 in Rome , † January 7, 1892 in Heidelberg ) was a German diplomat and member of the Reichstag .

Life

Theodor was born in Rome as the son of the Prussian ambassador Christian Karl Josias von Bunsen , his older brother was the politician Georg von Bunsen . Bunsen received private lessons in Rome and then visited the school gate and the universities in Bonn , Göttingen and Heidelberg , where he a. a. Law studied. In 1860 he received his doctorate. phil. From 1860 to 1862 he participated as an attaché in the Prussian diplomatic mission to China , Japan and Siam .

In 1863 Bunsen passed the Prussian legation secretary examination. As legation secretary he was in Brazil (1864–68) and in Sweden (1869). As Consul General and Chargé d'affaires of the North German Confederation and the Reich, he was in Peru (1870–72), as Chargé d'Affaires in Stockholm , Brussels (1873) and Washington, DC (1874). As consul general he was in Egypt from 1874–76, after which he left civil service.

In 1876 he was elected for the first time as a member of the German Reichstag in a by-election for the constituency of Liegnitz 8 ( Schönau , Hirschberg ), and from 1877 to 1878 for the constituency of Waldeck . He exercised both mandates for the National Liberal Party .
