Thomas Andresen (Author)

Thomas Andresen (born September 19, 1934 in Flensburg ; † January 20 or October 20, 1989 there ) was a German doctor and detective writer.

Life

Thomas Andresen received his doctorate in Hamburg in 1963 as a specialist in internal medicine , after having already studied philology for four semesters before changing subjects. During his student days he published two novels, which he later classified as "dubious", with the Papenburg Publishing House under the pseudonym Chris Martin .

He then worked full-time as an internist in a Flensburg clinic, while also working as a freelancer for the Munich weekly magazine Simplicissimus, which was newly founded in 1954, until they were hired in 1967 .

From 1969 until his death in 1989 he published a total of 22 detective novels, first with Goldmann , later with Rowohlt Verlag , then for 2 years again with Goldmann Verlag and finally with the Bastei Lübbe publishing group. At the same time, he wrote 18 detective radio plays for public radio stations from 1972 to 1986, most of which were commissioned by the West German Broadcasting Corporation .

In his heyday as a crime writer from 1972 to 1984, two scripts for the Second German Television also fall . The flow of his extensive medical expertise is characteristic of the content of his plot: in addition to the frequent use of clinics and hospitals as settings, many of his main characters come from the medical profession and other medical professions.

“Thomas Andresen was one of the pioneers of the new German crime novel. He was instrumental in making our genre so popular today. He was also one of the first members of the SYNDICATE . In recent years he has fallen into a serious personal and writing crisis. Depression he couldn't get over. Without a doubt, crime fiction has become poorer, because he, who often developed his material from a medical point of view, was one of the most important authors of the genre. "
