Thomas D. Williams LC (born October 2, 1962 in Pontiac (Michigan) , USA ) is a Roman Catholic moral theologian and former religious of the legionaries of Christ .

Life

Thomas D. Williams grew up in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, studied finance and economics at the University of Michigan and worked as a financial analyst . In 1985 he joined the Order of the Legionaries of Christ and studied Christian Spirituality at the High School in Cheshire . At the Spanish University of Salamanca he studied classical humanities as well as ancient and modern languages . In Rome he studied philosophy and theology . He was ordained a priest on November 25, 1994 in Mexico City . From 1994 to 2000 he was Superior of his Order in Rome. In 2000 he completed his doctorate in theology with a DST and distinction summa cum laude at the Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum.

2000 Thomas D. Williams to the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum in Rome appointed and was dean of the university. Since 2007 he has held the professorship for moral theology and Catholic social teaching and researches on the topics of dignity and human rights as well as moral concepts and Christology . He has held visiting professorships in Trujillo (Peru) , Leggiuno (Italy) , Caracas (Venezuela) , Krakow (Poland) and Madrid (Spain) . He also conducts research at the Saint Paul Center for Biblical Theology in Steubenville (Ohio) and is a member of the Associazione teologica italiana and the Pontifical Academy of St. Thomas Aquinas .

In 2002 and 2003 he was theological advisor for Mel Gibson's film " The Passion of the Christ ". He was a Faith and Religious Analysis Advisor for NBC and MSNBC News from 2004 to 2007 . He also worked for Sky News . On these news channels he commented on the death of John Paul II and the election of Benedict XVI. to the Pope.

He was an advisor to Pope Benedict XVI. during his apostolic trips to the USA (2008) and the Holy Land (2009).

In 2012, it was announced that Thomas D. Williams had a child. He is now married to the mother of his child and lives in Rome.
