Thomas Lippmann (born December 30, 1961 in Weimar ) is a German trade unionist and politician ( Die Linke ). He has been a member of the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt since 2016 and chairman of the Die Linke parliamentary group since 2017.

Life

Lippmann visited the POS "Wilhelm Pieck" in his place of residence, the Rosa-Luxemburg-Siedlung in Weimar, up to 8th grade. He completed the 9th and 10th grades at EOS "Friedrich Schiller" in Weimar. After successfully passing the entrance examination, he moved to the 11th grade of the special classes for mathematics and physics at the University of Halle . After graduating from high school in 1980, he did basic military service with the NVA . Subsequently, he took up a teaching degree at the University of Halle, which he completed in 1986 as a graduate teacher for mathematics and physics. From 1986 to 2002 he worked as a teacher at the secondary school in Wallwitz , from 1990 to 2002 he also took on the role of headmaster there.

After the political change in the GDR , Lippmann joined the Education and Science Union (GEW) in 1990 . From 1998 to 2016 he was state chairman of the GEW Saxony-Anhalt. In addition to his union activities, he was involved in local politics . From 2004 to 2010 he was council member of the Petersberg community and chairman of the Citizens for Petersberg parliamentary group ; From 2004 to 2014 he was a member of the Saalekreis district council and was chairman of the Saalekreis social list group .

Lippmann was non-party until he joined Die Linke in January 2017. In the state elections in Saxony-Anhalt in March 2016 , he ran as a direct candidate for Die Linke in constituency 33 (Saalekreis) . He was elected to the state parliament of Saxony-Anhalt in 8th place on the state list. Since November 2017 he has been chairman of the Die Linke parliamentary group.
