Thomas McIntosh (pianist)

Thomas McIntosh (born December 3, 1938 in Washington, DC ) is an American conductor and pianist .

Life

McIntosh studied with a Martha Baird Rockefeller Fund for Music with Jean Morel (conducting), Eduard Steuermann (piano) and Frederik Prausnitz (choral conducting) at the Juilliard School of Music in New York City. He also attended Columbia University and New York University in New York City and George Washington University in Washington, DC He won the Kranichstein Music Prize in Darmstadt in 1960 and came fourth at the Ferruccio Busoni International Piano Competition in Bolzano in 1961 .

He became music director of the London City Chamber Orchestra (since 1973), artistic director of the International East Anglian Summer Music Festival (since 1978), the Penang Malaysia Music Festival (1986/87), Artanglia (1988) and Opera Anglia (since 1989 ) and first guest conductor of the Canton Symphony Orchestra (since 1994).

McIntosh is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA).
