Wolfgang Gayler
Wolfgang Gayler (born December 19, 1934 in Stuttgart ; † October 6, 2011 in Nuremberg ) was a German conductor and pianist .
Life
Gayler was born in 1934 as the son of a dentist. From 1945 to 1954 he attended the Reutlingen grammar school. He then studied at the Technical University of Stuttgart , the State University of Music Stuttgart , the University of Music Freiburg and the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg . He was a scholarship holder of the German National Academic Foundation .
He started out as a tutor in Freiburg im Breisgau. In 1965 he moved to the Nuremberg Municipal Theaters . In 1977 he became deputy general music director and in 1993 music director of the city of Nuremberg. In 1984 he was a guest conductor at the Hamburg State Opera .
In 1958 he shared the 2nd prize of the Kranichstein Music Prize (piano) with Gábor Gabos and Rolf Kuhnert .
Gayler was married and had four children.
