Tim Green (tenor saxophonist)

Tim Green (* 1956 or 1957; † late August 2014 in New Orleans ) was an American jazz musician ( tenor saxophone , occasionally soprano , baritone and bass saxophone ) who was active in the New Orleans music scene.

Live and act

Green grew up in Bridgeport, Connecticut , and played the tambourine first before he discovered the saxophone in high school. After graduating from high school, initially in New York and Boston; an early mentor was Grover Washington junior . After a semester at Berklee College of Music , he moved to New Orleans, where he worked with Walter "Wolfman" Washington and Irma Thomas in the late 1970s , and later with Gulfstream and the Stick Band , Michael Ray , James Singleton , Ellis Marsalis , Clarence Gatemouth Brown , Bruce Hornsby , Maceo Parker , the Indigo Girls and Medeski, Martin & Wood . Peter Gabriel brought him to several record productions; With him he went on tour internationally; he also played with the Dirty Dozen Brass Band , Naked on the Floor and the large-format Naked Orchestra . In the field of jazz, he was involved in recording sessions with Fred Wesley and Dennis González .

Green was also chairman of the Louisiana Jazz Federation and managing director of radio station WRBH-FM. He had his last appearance on August 25, 2014 at Club Blue Nile with a reggae band; three days later he was found dead at his home in the Bywater suburb.
