Course of the Tjukjan (Тюкян) in the catchment area of the Wiljui

The Tjukjan ( Russian Тюкян ; Yakut Түүкээн , Tüükeen ) is a 747 km long left tributary of the Wiljui in Siberia ( Russia , Asia ).

course

The Tjukjan flows at a height of about 325  m from a swamp area in the watershed area of the Tjung basin in the eastern part of the Central Siberian mountain range , a little below the Arctic Circle . It initially flows in a south-easterly to easterly direction, reaches the Central Yakut Lowland and flows through it in a southerly direction. Here meanders of the river strong. It finally flows about 30 km northwest of the village and administrative center of the Ulus ( Rajons ) Verkhneviljuisk into the Lena tributary Wiljui, about halfway between the small towns of Nyurba and Wiljuisk on the Wiljui . The Tjukjan is less than 100 meters wide and about one meter deep near its mouth, and the flow velocity is 0.3 m / s.

The Tjukjan flows along its entire length through the territory of the autonomous Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) .

Hydrology

The catchment area of the Tjukjan covers 16,300 km². Significant inflows from the right of the 85 km long and 349 km long Tenkeljach Tschilli . In the catchment area there are a large number of outflowless lakes, mainly thermokarst formations .

The Tjukjan freezes between mid-October and the second half of May. The mean discharge is 30 m³ / s.

Use and infrastructure

The Tjukjan is not navigable.

The area through which it flows is only sparsely populated. The village of Ejik, which belongs to the Ulus (Rajon) Olenjokski and has 357 inhabitants (2001), is located near the source . There are no villages directly on the river. Almost along its entire length, the Tjukjan marks the border between the Ulussen Nyurba and Verkhneviljuisk, in the northern parts of which there are no permanently inhabited places. Only in the last 50 kilometers before its mouth does the river reach the more densely populated central part of the Ulusse along the Wiljui. There, the road running along the Wiljui crosses the Tjukjan, the only one in the area through which it flows, not far from its mouth. A fixed bridge is missing there so far, but is planned.
