Tobias Angerer (born February 26, 1990 in Schwaz ) is an Austrian natural track tobogganist . He achieved his greatest successes to date with Rupert Brüggler in a two-seater. They won the silver medal at the 2009 European Junior Championships and the gold medal at the 2017 World Championships , three wins in the World Cup and twice the overall intercontinental cup standings.

Career

Tobias Angerer has been competing in the Intercontinental Cup since the 2005/2006 season. In the first two years he only took part in single-seater races. In the 2006/2007 season he achieved his first top 10 placement and with twelfth place he achieved his best overall IC Cup result in the single seater. Since winter 2007/2008 he has been racing in a two-seater together with Rupert Brüggler of the same age , who had already driven with Anja Brüggler for two years . With third place at the Austrian state championships in 2008, which were held in Frantschach-Sankt Gertraud at the end of December 2007 , and simultaneously winning the Austrian junior championship title, they made the leap into the Austrian World Cup team straight away. In their first two World Cup races on January 13th and 20th, 2008 in Umhausen , they finished fifth and sixth, and a week later they achieved their best ever World Cup result with fourth place in Latsch . With these three results - they did not take part in any other World Cup races for the time being - they achieved eleventh place overall in the 2007/2008 season . But Tobias Angerer was not present at the Junior World Championships 2008 in Latsch. Rupert Brüggler started here with Dominik Holzknecht .

In the 2008/2009 season, Tobias Angerer and Rupert Brüggler did not take part in any World Cup races and only started in the Intercontinental Cup. They finished on the podium in all five races and were three times - in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , Jesenice and Laas - in first place, which won them the overall standings. At the 2009 European Junior Championships in Longiarü , they won the silver medal behind Thomas Kammerlander and Christoph Regensburger, who were 2.4 seconds ahead of them . After their overall victory in the Intercontinental Cup, Tobias Angerer and Rupert Brüggler were able to take part in a World Cup race again in the 2009/2010 season . They finished seventh in Umhausen, but did not make any further World Cup appearances during the rest of the winter. In the Intercontinental Cup they remained without a win this winter and achieved third place in the overall standings. They finished fourth at the 2010 Junior World Championships in Nova Ponente. They were 1.32 seconds short of the medal ranks. After Rupert Brüggler and Tobias Angerer finished second at the Austrian Junior Championships in 2009, they won the title for the second time in 2010.

In January 2011, Tobias Angerer and Rupert Brüggler came second in the doubles at the Austrian State Championships in Umhausen. Since Brüggler did not take part in any international competitions this winter, Angerer only started in the single-seater in the Intercontinental Cup. The best result he achieved was tenth in St. Sebastian and 13th overall. In the 2011/2012 season, Angerer was again at the start with Brüggler in the doubles. At the World Cup final in Umhausen they equalized their best World Cup placement to date with fourth place and won the overall doubles championship for the second time in the Intercontinental Cup with two victories in Umhausen and Laas. The Brüggler / Angerer duo also took part in a European championship for the first time in Nowouralsk and achieved eighth place.

On December 16, 2018, Angerer and Brüggler celebrated their first World Cup victory in Kühtai .
