Tomás Antonio Álvarez de Acevedo y Robles (* around 1740 in Spain ; † presumably 1788, presumably in Santiago de Chile ) was a Spanish lawyer and served interim as governor of the General Capitanate of Chile in 1780 .

Álvarez studied in Salamanca and then went to the New World . From 1776 he worked as a public prosecutor at the Real Audiencia of Charcas (Spanish: fiscal ) and then held the office of prosecutor at the Real Audiencia of Lima .

In November 1777 he was appointed first chairman (Spanish: Regente ) of the Real Audiencia of Chile , after the chairmanship had always been in the hands of the governors.

In Santiago he married Maria Josefa Salazar y Carrillo.

From July 6, 1780 to December 12, 1780 he served on an interim basis as governor of the General Capitanate.

In 1786 an incident occurred when Álvarez had a death sentence carried out despite formal errors.
