Term of office as governor

By decree of December 31, 1716, the Viceroy of Peru Carmine Nicolao Caracciolo determined the removal of Governor Juan Andrés de Ustariz de Vertizberea . Until the arrival of the new representative of the Spanish crown, Gabriel Cano de Aponte , Santiago Concha held the post of Chilean governor.

He took office on March 5, 1717 in Valparaíso . His brief tenure included, on the one hand, the continued fight against smuggling by the Dutch and French on the Chilean coasts. In addition, he had to cope with the public scandal in the dismissal of his predecessor. After he had given up his office in December to his successor Cano, he traveled to Peru; there he died on May 9, 1741.
