Félix de Berroeta

Félix de Berroeta (* in Azpeitia , Guipuzcoa Province , Basque Country , Spain ; † May 26, 1768 in Valdivia , Chile ) was a Spanish officer and colonial administrator who temporarily served as governor of Chile from 1761 to 1762 .

He was married to Josefa de Iturrigaray.

Berroeta entered the service of the Spanish crown in 1732, first in the infantry regiment of Cordoba , later in Catalonia and with the Queen's dragoons .

He took part in various battles, such as at Campo Santo in Italy and in the defense of Veletri , where he was wounded. Governor Manuel d'Amat i de Junyent , who had met him as an adjutance officer in his cavalry regiment of Batavia, hit King Charles III. propose to appoint Berroeta Governor of Valdivia . On October 21, 1761 he took up this office ( coming by ship from Cádiz ).

When Governor Amat was appointed Viceroy of Peru , he appointed Berroeta as his interim successor. He served from September 9, 1761 until he gave up his office on October 3, 1762 to Antonio de Guill y Gonzaga .

Until October 1, 1763 he was the colonial administrator of Valdivia. He was sentenced to a fine for trading with the troops, which he no longer had to pay because he died earlier in 1768.
