List of Governors of Chile
The governor of Chile ruled the Spanish colony, then known as the Kingdom of Chile (Reino de Chile). This area was also called the General Capitanate of Chile . Accordingly, the governor of Chile also had the rank of captain general. As chairman of the Real Audiencia of Chile, he was also the district's chief judge until 1776 .
During the Spanish rule, Chile had a total of 66 governors from 1540 to independence in 1817.
