Tom Kaulitz (born September 1, 1989 in Leipzig ; real name Tom Kaulitz-Trümper ) is a German guitarist. Together with his twin brother , the singer Bill Kaulitz , he is a founding member of the Tokio Hotel group .

Life

Tom Kaulitz was born the son of the painter Simone Charlotte Kaulitz and a truck driver. He was born ten minutes before his identical twin brother, Bill. When the twins were six years old, the parents separated. Three years later the brothers and their mother moved from Magdeburg to their stepfather, the musician Gordon Trümper, in Loitsche . As children, Tom and Bill Kaulitz could be seen in the Radio Bremen production Crazy About You .

The twins attended the Kurfürst-Joachim-Friedrich-Gymnasium in Wolmirstedt , which they left without a degree in 2006 due to their musical career. In the spring of 2008, Tom and Bill made up their secondary school diploma at an internet school . In April 2009 the brothers were awarded the youth award for distance learning for their “exemplary school performance” .

In 2015, after a four-year relationship, Kaulitz married the Hamburg-based cosmetics entrepreneur and Miss Philippines Germany 2004 Ria Sommerfeld, but filed for divorce that same year. In 2018, this had not yet taken place due to maintenance disputes.

In May 2018, Heidi Klum announced her relationship with Tom Kaulitz. The couple married on August 3, 2019.

Musical career

Both brothers showed a great interest in music from an early age; According to their own statements, they started writing their own titles at the age of seven. Her stepfather, who himself plays guitar in the rock band Fatun , recognized the brothers' talent and gave them their first appearances in the Magdeburg area. As the duo Black Question Mark , they performed their own songs at city festivals and at private parties.

After a performance in the Magdeburg Club Gröninger Bad in 2001, Tom and Bill made the acquaintance of Gustav Schäfer and Georg Listing, who from then on supported the brothers musically. Under the newly chosen name Devilish , they initially appeared on talent shows and at small concerts without being able to achieve commercial success. After an appearance by Bill Kaulitz on the casting show Star Search in the summer of 2003, the music producer Peter Hoffmann noticed the brothers and signed Devilish .

The published 2005 Title Through the monsoon and the associated album Scream succeeded Tokio Hotel , now as the band was called, a commercial success.

In 2010 Tom Kaulitz moved to Los Angeles with his twin brother . There they worked on the band's fourth studio album.

From January to May 2013 Tom and Bill were jurors in the anniversary season of the RTL casting show Deutschland sucht den Superstar .

Trivia

• The twins were put in chains for a poster for the animal rights organization PETA . They used it to protest against wild animals in the circus. In March 2012, they also drew attention to the killing of street dogs in Ukraine on the occasion of the 2012 European Football Championship .
