Anton Pfeffer (born August 17, 1965 in Lilienfeld ), nicknamed Rambo , is a former Austrian football player .

Football career

Pfeffers youth club was the SV Türnitz based in Türnitz in the Lilienfeld district . In 1985, at the age of 20, he moved to Vienna Austria . The defender was the captain of Austria Wien for a long time.

He took part in the World Championships in Italy in 1990 and in France in 1998 . He played five times in the two world championships and got two yellow cards. His back pass in the match against the ČSFR (World Cup 1990) and the resulting defeat were, in the opinion of many fans, the main reason for Austria's preliminary round at this World Cup. In 1999, Pfeffer was also involved in the 9-0 defeat of the Austrian national soccer team against Spain . In the half-time break, when it was already 5-0 for Spain, he answered the question of what was still possible in the second half in an interview with ORF reporter Andreas Felber : "... up who's going to win ..." (standard German : " We won't win it any more. ”).

Pfeffer ended his career in the summer of 2000 after 396 championship games for Vienna Austria. Pfeffer was considered a "tough" defender, which is why Herbert Prohaska gave him the nickname "Rambo".

Coaching career

Pfeffer was coach of Wiener Austria from August 12, 2001 to December 21, 2001 together with Walter Hörmann , before he was released again.

Others

In 2001 he ran unsuccessfully for the ÖVP for a seat on the ORF Public Council . In the 2017 National Council election , he supported their top candidate Sebastian Kurz .

Since 2005 he has been a member of the supervisory board of the Austrian first division club SKN St. Pölten, where he advises the management board on sporting issues. His main job is in the sports department of the Lower Austrian provincial government . In 2000 he received the Silver Medal of Honor of the State of Lower Austria for his sporting successes .

Pfeffer is a passionate singer, he has recorded a CD with Austrian folk songs (Toni Pfeffer & Freunde Volkslieder aus Österreich , published 2003) and two Schlager CDs ( Pfeffer und Salz , published 1997 and Pfeffer , published 1999).

After his active career, he worked with the former professional Goran Zvijerac , who came to numerous appearances in the Austrian second division at the end of the 1990s and ended his career in lower-class amateur football at the age of 40, as a trainer at the Lower Austria football camps He is also the patron.
