Torbjørn Getz Falkanger (born October 8, 1927 in Trondheim ; † July 16, 2013 there ) was a Norwegian ski jumper .

Career

Falkanger celebrated his first success at the Norwegian Championships in Strinda in 1948 , where he won the silver medal on the normal hill behind Asbjørn Ruud . In 1949 he won the international jumping at Holmenkollen for the first time. In the same year he won his first national title at the Norwegian Championships in Steinkjer in 1949 , ahead of Sverre Kronvoll and Arnfinn Bergmann .

In 1950 he won again at Holmenkollen and at the national championships. At the Nordic World Ski Championships m the same year in Lake Placid he reached fifth place.

At the opening ceremony of the 1952 Winter Olympics in Oslo , Falkanger was given the honor of taking the Olympic oath . In the Olympic competition he was still in the lead after the first round on the Holmenkollbakken and ultimately won the silver medal behind his compatriot Arnfinn Bergmann.

After the Olympic Games, he and Stein Eriksen , Heikki Hasu and Nils Karlsson received the Holmenkollen Medal , the highest award in Norwegian skiing. Only a few weeks later at the Norwegian Championships in Porsgrunn in 1952 he won the silver medal again.

At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Falun in 1954 , he finished sixth after a mixed competition. Shortly afterwards he won the title again at the Norwegian Championships in Strinda in 1954 .

After a fall while jumping on Holmenkollen, Falkanger was unable to take part in the Winter Olympics in Cortina d'Ampezzo due to injury in 1956 and ended his career there.

Private

Falkanger is the son of dispatcher Arne Falkanger (1895–1976) and Signe Getz (1896–1939). On April 28, 1952, he married Margrethe (Mosse) Pauline Grimstad (* 1929). After the end of his career, Falkanger worked in the family-owned shoe factory Falkanger Sko AS in Trondheim , where he subsequently took on the post of director. He died in Trondheim on July 16, 2013 at the age of 86.
