Torfou is a town and commune Déléguée in the French community Sèvremoine with 2,224 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Maine-et-Loire in the region of Pays de la Loire . The inhabitants are called Torfousien (ne) s .
geography
Torfou is located about 17 kilometers west-southwest of Cholet in the Mauges countryside . The development of traffic takes place through the former Route nationale 149 (today's D949 / D149).
history
On September 19, 1793, there was a battle ( Battle of Torfou or Battle of Tiffauges ) between the republican troops against the rebels of the Vendée, who were outnumbered and won the day.
With effect from December 15, 2015, the municipalities of Le Longeron , Montfaucon-Montigné , La Renaudière , Roussay , Saint-André-de-la-Marche , Saint-Crespin-sur-Moine , Saint-Germain-sur-Moine , Saint- Macaire-en-Mauges , Tillières and Torfou from the former Communauté de communes de Moine et Sèvre merged to form a Commune nouvelle with the name Sèvremoine. The municipality of Torfou belonged to the Arrondissement of Cholet and the canton of Saint-Macaire-en-Mauges (until 2015: Montfaucon-Montigné ).
