Roussay is a town and commune Déléguée in the French community Sèvremoine with 1,252 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Maine-et-Loire in the region of Pays de la Loire .
geography
Roussay is located about 42 kilometers southeast of Nantes , the prefecture of the Pays de la Loire region.
history
The parish of Roussay has existed since the 12th century. In 1793, Roussay was still called Brossay , at that time it was officially declared a municipality in the course of the French Revolution and in 1801 received the right to local self-government .
With effect from December 15, 2015, the municipalities of Le Longeron , Montfaucon-Montigné , La Renaudière , Roussay , Saint-André-de-la-Marche , Saint-Crespin-sur-Moine , Saint-Germain-sur-Moine , Saint- Macaire-en-Mauges , Tillières and Torfou from the former Communauté de communes de Moine et Sèvre merged to form a Commune nouvelle with the name Sèvremoine. The municipality of Roussay belonged to the Arrondissement of Cholet and the canton of Saint-Macaire-en-Mauges (until 2015: Montfaucon-Montigné ).
Culture and sights
There are two churches in Roussay, the Saint-Sauveur church was built in the 12th century while the Saint-Pierre church was built in the 19th century.
economy
The main occupation in Roussay is agriculture , especially mixed culture , viticulture , beekeeping and the breeding of domestic cattle . The most important local company is Grimaud Frères (Grimaud Brothers), which specializes in the genetic selection of poultry.
In 2007 the Beckum-Roussay partnership committee organized a German-French relay race from Beckum to Roussay. The charity run is called La Course . The collected donations flowed into the Ferme des Mauges project . In 2008 the Ferme des Mauges in Roussay was set up, a farm that has become the home and workplace of people with Fragile X syndrome and their carers. The farm mainly produces goat milk and goat cheese .

Here are controlled appellations (AOC) for Butter (Beurre Charentes-Poitou, des Charentes and Deux-Sèvres) and beef cattle of the breed Maine Anjou and protected geographical indications (PGI) for beef (boeuf de Vendée and du Maine) , pork (Porc de Vendée) , poultry (Volailles de Challans, d'Ancenis, de Cholet and de Vendée) and brioche vendéenne .
