List of coats of arms in Saxony-Anhalt

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This list with its sub-lists, which can be reached via the navigation bar at the end of the page, contains - sorted according to the administrative structure - all coats of arms of the state of Saxony-Anhalt listed in Wikipedia . Most of the 1016 municipalities in the state (as of March 1, 2008) do not have a coat of arms. These lists therefore not only show the coats of arms, but also the information about which coats of arms and information are missing in Wikipedia or which municipalities do not have a coat of arms. The footnotes refer to the blazon of the corresponding coat of arms.

After the municipal reform completed at the end of 2010, there are now 218 legally independent municipalities and 18 association municipalities. The municipalities that have lost their legal existence on the occasion of the municipal area reform can continue to use their coats of arms as a district of the municipality into which they were incorporated, according to Section 15 of the municipal constitution. In particular, a formerly used (sovereignty) symbol as a symbol of history and the lost legal independence should be kept in memory. Insofar as districts do not yet have a coat of arms, they can no longer accept a coat of arms, since as a legally dependent territorial structure they do not bear original rights. In addition, a newly adopted coat of arms would not be part of the local history to be kept in memory.

As can already be seen in the coat of arms of Saxony-Anhalt, the Saxon colors (gold with black bars), the Prussian eagle , in the north (in the Altmark ) often the Märkische eagle are part of the frequently occurring symbolism. In the area of the former Anhalt principalities you can find the coats of arms from these houses, such as the bear on a wall in the former Anhalt-Bernburg .
