Coats of arms of formerly independent cities
In the course of the regional reform , 3 independent cities also lost their district freedom. The city of Gießen was initially merged with the city of Wetzlar and surrounding communities to form the independent city of Lahn, but this was reversed only 31 months later. Giessen then also lost its freedom of circle. Hanau should become a district again on January 1, 2022.
