Former counties

The districts of Eisenberg and Schmölln did not have a district coat of arms from 1990 until the administrative reform in 1994, other districts carried or developed informally coats of arms that were not officially approved.

  53. Rudolstadt: The coat of arms is outlined in red and quartered. In the heart shield in silver a crowned golden lion; the first and fourth fields blue and the second and third fields silver; in the base of the shield in silver a red oven fork and a red comb. (not officially approved)
  54. Schleiz: In front in black a gold, red crowned and armored lion; at the top in silver a blue winged fish; a black cross in silver lower left. (Adopted in 1935, not officially approved)
