This list with its sub-lists, which can be reached via the navigation bar below, contains - sorted according to the administrative structure - the coat of arms of the state of Saxony shown in Wikipedia . The state of Saxony is divided into ten districts and three independent cities.

Coat of arms of the Free State of Saxony

The coat of arms goes back to the former Kingdom of Saxony . However, the origin of the coat of arms is derived from the Anhalt line of the Askanians . Its escutcheon was divided nine times by black and gold. Although the shield appeared as early as the 12th century, the green diamond wreath was not put on until around 1150. It stands for the abandonment of the Ascanian house of Saxony-Wittenberg to its home country in Saxony-Lauenburg and owes its shape to the Gothic architectural style. When the male Ascanian line died out, the Margraves of Meissen took over the electoral dignity and the coat of arms.

Various other dominions and territories use similar coats of arms, which vary in the number and order of the black and gold stripes or lead the green diamond wreath straight or curved.
