Torsten Truscheit

Torsten Truscheit (* 1966 in Kreuztal , Siegen-Wittgenstein district ) is a German screenwriter , director , film dramaturge , cameraman and film editor . He mainly works in the field of documentary film .

Life

After initial training as a surveying technician, Truscheit studied media planning, development and consulting at the University of Siegen , graduating in 1996. He then worked as a freelance editor and cameraman. From 1997 to 2000 he completed postgraduate studies in directing / documentary film at the Baden-Württemberg Film Academy in Ludwigsburg , including participation in the exchange program with the EICTV film school in Cuba . His graduation film Rabelados was made together with the teacher, architect, production designer and director Ana Rocha Fernandes , who was born in Cape Verde - the land of the film industry - in 1971 and studied with him. Since then he has also cooperated with her on other projects.

Truscheit produces documentary films and series as well as reports for SWR (e.g. for Fahr mal hin ), NDR , RBB and ZDF . He is also an employee in the directing department at the Merz Academy . Truscheit is a member of the documentary film working group . Today he lives and works - just like Ana Rocha Fernandes - freelance in Stuttgart .

Truscheit's work as a director so far includes:

  • 1999: The ninth spring (TV documentary about the history of the Thuringian town of Artern and its wrestling club after the fall of the Wall)
  • 2000: Rabelados - The Nonviolent Rebels of the Cape Verde Islands (16 mm documentary film, about a religious minority that has adhered to the requirements of the Catholic Church and state centralism since the 1940s, when Catholicism under the Portuguese dictator Salazar was the state religion and oppressive Colonial policy was pursued, refused and therefore discriminated or brutally persecuted)
  • 2002: Young Hearts - On a Long Journey into Life (twelve-part TV documentary series, about young people during an educational world tour on the sailing ship Thor Heyerdahl as part of a project by the Hermann Lietz School Spiekeroog )
  • 2009: The Rush of the Sea (short film about an African refugee and a prison guard in a German deportation prison)
  • 2012: Golfo Popular - The Story of the Black Lords (full-length film, about the true story of the first African golf team); Directed, written and edited together with Ana Rocha Fernandes

  • 2001: Critics Week Award - Special Mention at the Locarno International Film Festival for The Rush of the Sea , together with Ana Rocha Fernandes
  • 2010: Baden-Württemberg Film Prize in the short film category for Das Rauschen des Meeres , together with Ana Rocha Fernandes.
  • 2011: Best Women's Short Film Award - Runner-up (second place) at the Cleveland International Film Festival for the sound of the sea (English: The Roar of the Sea ), along with Ana Rocha Fernandes
  • 2011: Faial Filmes Fest (Azores Film Fest): Best short film for Das Rauschen des Meeres (Portuguese: O ruído do mar ), together with Ana Rocha Fernandes
  • 2011: Prize of the jury at the Cabo Verde International Film Festival for The Sound of the Sea (Portuguese: O ruído do mar ), together with Ana Rocha Fernandes
  • 2011: In December, reached the sound of the sea among a total of 107 applications in the field live action shorts (not animated shorts) - shortlisted for the nominations for the Academy Awards 2012 as Best Short Film was nominated but then Raju by director Max Count .
