Toto is the debut album by the US band Toto . It was released on October 15, 1978 on Columbia Records .

Creation and publication

Soon after the band was founded, the first album was recorded in Hollywood , David Paich was the main songwriter. Guest musicians included Lenny Castro (percussion), Jim Horn , Chuck Findley (both wind instruments), Marty Paich , Sid Sharp (both string instruments), Roger Linn (keyboard) and Cheryl Lynn (vocals). Toto was recorded by Dan Latham and Gabe Veltri, mixed by Tom Knox and mastered by Mike Reese and Ron Hitchcock at the Mastering Lab in Los Angeles . The album was initially released on LP, MC and 8-track cassette , the first CD version came on the market in 1990.

Music genre

The experienced studio musicians play commercially oriented, catchy and professionally produced adult oriented rock with influences from pop music , funk , rhythm and blues , hard rock and progressive rock on Totos' debut album .

reception

The album and its single releases were radio and chart successes, but the music press complained that Toto's music was purely handcrafted and lacked inspiration. In Rolling Stone , for example, David Paich's songwriting and Bobby Kimball's singing were criticized.
