Career

The career of Ivănescu began in 1951 when flacara Bucharest in the Divizia A . In early 1952 he joined CCA Bucharest (later Steaua Bucharest ). There he was used in half of the games in the 1952 season and won the Romanian championship with his new team. By winning the cup in the same season, he was able to win the double . In the 1953 season he became a regular and was able to defend the championship title. In the 1955 season he had to move back into the second tier. As a result, he had a smaller share in the 1955 Cup victory and the 1956 championship . In the seasons 1957/58 and 1958/59 Ivănescu came only to a total of five missions. In the 1959/60 season he regained his regular place and won further titles with the championships in 1960 and 1961 and the 1962 cup .

In the summer of 1963 Ivănescu left Steaua and moved to local rivals Progresul Bucharest . There he could not build on the previous successes. In the middle of the 1964/65 season he joined second division Siderurgistul Galați . After the rise in 1965 he was hired by Jiul Petroșani . On the last day of the 1965/66 season , when Jiul was already established as a promoter to Divizia A, he broke his leg and had to end his career.

National team

Ivănescu came once in the Romanian national team when he was substituted on May 8, 1954 in the friendly game against the GDR for Vasile Zavoda .

Coaching career

In 1967 Ivănescu was initially the youth coach of his last club Jiul Petroșani after all attempts to return to the field had failed. At the start of the 1973/74 season, he was appointed as successor to Ştefan Coidum head coach of Jiul in Divizia A . In the league, he finished with his team only in 15th place and avoided relegation by six points against Rapid Bucharest . At the same time he reached the Romanian Cup final against Politehnica Timișoara with Jiul , where he was able to win his first title as a coach. This success is still the greatest in the club's history. He was then replaced by Titus Ozone .
