Style and reception

The American weekly Phoenix New Times describes the band's music as "hardcore punk, mixed with skate rock and a flair for metal" and "heavy, angry riffs, shouting and lots of (...) swear words" that a "Pain-relieving tonic for today's troubled times" and went in the direction of powerviolence . The newspaper saw musical parallels to the Circle Jerks and felt reminded of Void and Negative Approach when Lee Spielman sang . The US lifestyle magazine Vice describes Trash Talk as the “sickest band in the world” and “damn cool”. The British BBC certified the band as having “explosive live energy” and a “brutal (...) sound” and described the band's concerts as “a display of uncontrolled destruction”. The New York music magazine The Fader sees trash talk in a similar role as the band Nirvana in the 1990s - just like the grunge band, trash talk has fanatical fans and moves in a scene that is gradually in contact with the Mainstream devices. Compared to Trash Talk, Nirvana was a "tame" band. The New Yorker Village Voice rates Trash Talk as a “good hardcore band”, which musically offers nothing new, what it offers, but does “incredibly well”. Village Voice author Tom Breihan felt reminded of the energy of the retro band White Stripes . His colleague Caitlin White, on the other hand, saw the band's live performances as a mixture of "thrashing, strong expressions and noisy energy without any fine-tuning".

In 2010 Trash Talk won the Kerrang! Awards in the “Best International Newcomer” category.
