The Trelleborg is a former railway ferry of the Swedish shipping company Stena Line , which was used from 1982 to 2014 on the royal line on the Baltic Sea between Sassnitz on the German island of Rügen and the Swedish Trelleborg . The ship has been called Sunny since 2016 .

history

In October 1979 the Swedish state ferry company Statens Järnvägars Färjedrift (SJ) commissioned the construction of this ferry. At the time, it was the largest rail ferry in the world. Due to the critical situation of the Swedish shipyards, the order was triggered earlier than originally planned. In December 1981 the ferry went on a test drive to Saßnitz, but had to be improved due to various problems. This lasted until May 1982. From June 1982 the Trelleborg was used as planned on the Königslinie between Trelleborg and Sassnitz, and from 1998 she called at the Sassnitz ferry port in the Mukran district.

In February 1993 a fire broke out in the engine room, which the crew was able to extinguish. Due to machine problems, the ferry was repaired on the Öresundsvarvet in Landskrona in October 2005 , and the passenger area was extensively modernized in July 2006. In June 2007, the ferry hit the port of Trelleborg and a propeller was damaged. The repairs were carried out again on the Öresundsvarvet in Landskrona. On March 27, 2008, there was a bomb alarm in the Sassnitz ferry port. The numerous emergency services were able to quickly give the all-clear: A measuring device had been attached to the ship without the knowledge of the captain.

Due to low occupancy, the Trelleborg was withdrawn from the ferry service in September 2014. From October 2014 to August 2015 the ferry was operational in Rostock launched , of 19 August 2015 to April 5, 2016 it was in the port of Uddevalla on. The ship was offered for sale from the beginning of April 2015. On February 25, 2016 the Trelleborg was sold to the MH Marine Company in Majuro . Beginning of April 2016 was the ship in Sunny renamed to the flag of Palau reflagging and ship management by the Go Shipping & Management in Piraeus assumed. She left Uddevalla on April 6, 2016. From April 27, 2016, the ferry was rebuilt at a shipyard near Ambelakia on the Greek island of Salamis ; from January 19 to March 9, 2017, it was in the dock of a shipyard on the island of Syros to renew the hull painting .

The ship has been sailing for the Karaneh Line shipping company in Iran since April 12, 2017 . The ship initially operated between the islands of Qeschm and Kisch , but was up for sale again in May 2020.

operator

The ferry was commissioned and operated by the ferry company of the Swedish State Railways ( Statens Järnvägars Färjedrift , from 1992 SweFerry ). From 1997 it belonged to Scandlines AB , a subsidiary of the Swedish State Railways. This company was sold to Stena Line in 1999 , but the ferry continued to operate in the colors of Scandlines . She wore the Stena Line color scheme from late 2012 to April 2016 . The ship has been managed by Go Shipping & Management in Piraeus since 2016 .

Furnishing

The Trelleborg had a railway deck with five tracks and a total track length of 680 meters, which was also used for road vehicles. There was also space for 20  trucks and 15 cars on the car deck. The railway wagons were driven in and out via a stern ramp, the road vehicles also via a ramp at the stern and on the starboard side. The ship is powered by four MAN diesel engines with a total of 24,000 hp that drive two propellers. It also has two bow thrusters and a bow rudder for backward travel. The ferry was approved for 900 passengers.

After the renovation in 2016, the ship has 130 cabins for 417 passengers. In addition to a restaurant, café, conference room and library, there are also two cinemas and a swimming pool with sauna on board. 250 cars can be transported.
